Vernon Wells is not good at beisbol
October 31st, 2009 by czar

Here’s a hypothetical: Mike Lowell , Casey Kelly, Michael Bowden, and Pimental for Halladay and Vernon Wells

Getting ready to get on a plane so I don’t really have time to delve into this; but if the Sox (or any other team) are taking on Wells and his remaining 5/$99m then I see absolutely no reason to give them a single piece higher than maybe a B-level prospect or two.

I think you are underestimating the suck that is that deal. That contract is so bad it makes Julio Lugo look like one of the best values of the last 5 years.

And you can’t compare the Dice-K posting fee to any form of dead Wells salary, hypothetical or not, because A) you didn’t have to give up a single player to negotiate with Matsuzaka and B) you will end up paying double in contract salary for Halladay for what the Sox ended up paying for a guy who was like, what, 7 years younger?
