Trade value and Prince Fielder
October 13th, 2009 by czar

Would Papelbon, Lowrie, and Buchholz net us Fielder and Hardy from the Brewers? I know they signed Hoffman, but Paps is a lot younger obviously. Probably too much of a fantasy league type trade, but I’d like to see something along those lines – AGon from SD?

While I don’t typically like commenting on “MVP Baseball-type” trade hypotheticals… as I discussed earlier, it sounds like you can get Hardy for maybe a B prospect and picking up his contract.

That trade turns into Papelbon/Buchholz/Lowrie for Fielder and while Fielder was phenomenal this season (as phenomenal as 300 lbs of Jello could be) I actually think you can get way more value out of a package like that; possibly by splitting it up, possibly by adding additional chips that make it more lucrative to other teams (the fact that I think Buchholz’s value to this team (as constructed) is still undervalued by posters here aside).
