Sox out of Teixeira bidding
December 19th, 2008 by czar

John Henry has announced that the Sox are not going to continue bidding for Teixeira’s services.  While this may be a ploy, let’s consider for a moment that it is not.  I have a gut feeling this is much bigger than it seems on the surface; it goes beyond the Sox hitting their price limit with MT.

Henry essentially didn’t like what Boras was spewing or getting jerked around, or whatever, and immediately and publicly pulled out of negotiations. Not only does Boras have one less suitor with deep pockets, but everyone KNOWS that suitor is washing their hands of the situation. Henry doing this in such a public and abrupt fashion really seems to indicate his desire to lash out at Boras and may substantially hurt the bargaining power of him and his client.

If this move does end up hurting Boras, the real question is how this affects further negotiations between the Sox and his clients. At all? For this year? For future years?

Of course, if this IS a ploy, it’s interesting to see where it leads.
