Debunking the Sheets misconceptions
December 18th, 2008 by czar

No Sheets.  While he’s a very good pitcher when healthy, he has shown zero ability to stay healthy.  He reminds me of the retreads Duquette used to pick up.

Because he hasn’t averaged 28 starts a year since he broke into the bigs. Oh wait, he has.

Because he has put up similar ERA+’s to Bret Saberhagen, David Cone and Ramon Martinez in the preceding three years before they came to Boston. Oh wait, no– he’s actually been good in his years before FA.

Now, there are a few reasons to not like Ben Sheets, but to say that he has shown ZERO ability to stay healthy or to compare him to the Saberhagen/Martinez irk of the Duquette world is patently inaccurate.

  • Traversing the land that is known as Red Sox Nation, The Czar Who Wears Red Sox is an attempt at compiling a repertoire of my ever-so-sexy forum posts (when I'm too lazy to write my own damn entry) and other random baseball thoughts that strike. For those whose posts serve as the inspiration of my epiphanies and rants, do not be angry, but merely, be honored that you have achieved such status. Names will never be revealed. Feedback appreciated, as this is a work in progress.
