The return of the Derek Lowe face?
October 23rd, 2008 by czar

Derek Lowe is probably the best value on the free agent market this offseason.

I think quite the opposite. He’s been pitching in a pitcher’s ballpart in the DH-less NL; and his peripherals haven’t even been that spectacular since he arrived. That said, because of his somewhat flashy ERA along with the lack of tier II starting pitching; he’ll likely command more than he’s worth on the open market. Not to mention that even a modest 3 year deal locks him up through the age of 38– a teams best hope is that he can sustain; but there will likely be a fairly sizable dropoff as he passes his mid 30′s and approaches 40.

And this is all aside from his alleged off-the-field issues and problems with Boston’s current front office for dumping/”slandering” him after 2004. Oh, and the fact that Scott Boras is his agent.
