Think Zink…
August 11th, 2008 by czar

The Red Sox have opted to go with Charlie Zink on short rest over Devern Hansack to replace Tim Wakefield tomorrow evening according to Extra Bases.

We’ve just been informed that knuckleballer Charlie Zink will start tomorrow night against the Rangers in place of the injured Tim Wakefield. The 28-year-old Zink is 13-4 with a 2.89 ERA in 25 games with Pawtucket this season.

Interesting move seeing as both Zink and Hansack had very similar stat lines, and Hansack had the advantages of A) being on regular rest, B) being on the 40-man, and C) having big league experience. Zink will work on three days rest, and I’m assuming Kevin Cash will catch the young(er than Wakefield) knuckleballer.
