Bring back Buchholz…
June 26th, 2008 by czar

Clay Buchholz is tearing up AAA.  After Buchholz’s start against Richmond last night (6 2/3, 1 ER, 6 K), he is now 3-1 with an ERA of 1.87 since joining Pawtucket on a “rehab” assignment.  Overall, he has a BAA of .218, GO/AO of 1.17, and his K/BB is 35/14 in 33.2 IP.  In his last 3 starts (17.2 IP) Buchholz has surrendered only a single earned run (that coming on a solo blast in the 7th last night) with a K/BB of 21/4.

So the real question is– when will we see Clay back in Boston?

At this juncture, I think it depends on Colon’s status. While Masterson has been a very pleasant surprise, there is no doubt that he is set to regress with a .207 BABIP and a 5.25 FIP in seven starts at the big league level. Honestly, I’ve seen enough of Colon (on television and, unfortunately, in person) to give the rotation spot back to Clay (whose .365 BABIP and 3.51 FIP indicate how unlucky he was in his 8 starts in Boston) when Masterson slips (which I am assuming is an inevitability, but of course is not a given), but if the Sox want Colon back in the rotation, I suppose we’ll be relegated to watching Clay and Justin take turns after one another in the PawSox rotation…
