Lester is en fuego…
June 18th, 2008 by czar

In Jon Lester’s last 10 starts, he has not allowed more than 3 ER. He is 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA.

His 3.18 ERA is now 7th best in the American League.

He has had only 2 BB in his last 3 starts (going 20.1 IP) and has only walked more than 2 BB in a start once in his last 8.

His strike:ball ratio has steady climbed as the season has progressed, peaking at 69% his last two starts out. He hasn’t been below 60% since the first 4 starts of the season.

As far as peripherals; while his K/9 has decreased a tad, his GB% is up an amazing 14% over last year, while his FB% is down about the same. (His GB/FB % has gone from .73 to 1.5) His BABIP is hovering around career norms, indicating he is not pitching at a wholly unsustainable pace.

He has the second highest cumulative WPA on the entire pitching staff (behind Matsuzaka).

Maybe… just maybe… Lester is turning the corner.

About The Site

  • Traversing the land that is known as Red Sox Nation, The Czar Who Wears Red Sox is an attempt at compiling a repertoire of my ever-so-sexy forum posts (when I'm too lazy to write my own damn entry) and other random baseball thoughts that strike. For those whose posts serve as the inspiration of my epiphanies and rants, do not be angry, but merely, be honored that you have achieved such status. Names will never be revealed. Feedback appreciated, as this is a work in progress.
