How many Colon jokes can I make before Opening Day?
March 3rd, 2008 by czar

Colon gets thumbs up (that’s one.)

Bartolo Colon threw 42 pitches in his bullpen session, exclusively fastballs with a few changeups mixed in, and approached 90 miles an hour in his velocity with a few pitches, according to pitching coach John Farrell. “For not being on the mound for 3 1/2 weeks, I thought he threw to both sides of the plate, he got through the glove well with good carry. A very good day for him.”

Edes goes on to say that he’ll throw another session Wednesday. I’m still not holding out any hope for Calzone making any real contribution, but the depth he brings is welcome considering Schilling is out until the ASB, and you can’t count on Buchholz for more than 180 IP (if that) when you consider this organizations care with young pitchers. I’d like to see him broaching 90-92 by the end of spring training. I think that would be a fair barometer of potential use to this team as currently constructed.

About The Site

  • Traversing the land that is known as Red Sox Nation, The Czar Who Wears Red Sox is an attempt at compiling a repertoire of my ever-so-sexy forum posts (when I'm too lazy to write my own damn entry) and other random baseball thoughts that strike. For those whose posts serve as the inspiration of my epiphanies and rants, do not be angry, but merely, be honored that you have achieved such status. Names will never be revealed. Feedback appreciated, as this is a work in progress.
