Move Hanley to the hot corner in FLA?
November 7th, 2007 by czar

Do you think Florida would want Lowrie in a Cabrera deal? They could put Lowrie at SS and move Ramirez to 3B.

If they (the Marlins) thought his arm was suspect at SS, why would they move him to 3B– especially considering you would take away his best defensive attribute (speed) by slotting him in at a corner instead of MI or CF?

Because by some accounts Hanley is one of the worst (if not the worst) defensive SS in the majors (-37 in 2007 according the Fielding bible, worst in MLB). He has the bat to play 3B however.

Considering his defense is horrendous at SS, why move him just to 3B which will likely expose the same (or similar flaws) as SS? CF makes a whole lot more sense if the Marlins were really that desperate to move him from short– his arm and groundball fielding would be negated, and he’d be playing the position (CF) that utilizes his top tier speed the most.
