Is Juan Encarnacion an August possibility?
August 3rd, 2007 by czar

Juan Encarnacion is hitting .294/.329/.456/.785 with 7 HR and 41 RBI in part time duty. He’d be a perfect August trade for the Red Sox.

Which is why he likely won’t fall to the Sox unless all the other GMs fall asleep.

$5 million for one season in this market is a drop in the bucket.

Juan Encarnacion will definitely clear waivers.  Complimentary players making $5 million don’t get claimed during August unless someone really, really, really needs him.  And I don’t see anyone out there that does.

“Complimentary players” don’t have starting gigs. Encarnacion’s AB are down mainly because his missed the first 6+ weeks of the season with a wrist injury. In a market climate where JD Drew makes $15 million a year long-term, a $5 million contract for one year for a starting OF capable of putting up a 760+ OPS is a deal I’m sure most GM’s would strongly consider. Not saying he’s guaranteed to get claimed, but I think it’s foolish to think that there is “No way Juan doesn’t clear” especially with so many teams ahead of the Sox in the pecking order.

  • Traversing the land that is known as Red Sox Nation, The Czar Who Wears Red Sox is an attempt at compiling a repertoire of my ever-so-sexy forum posts (when I'm too lazy to write my own damn entry) and other random baseball thoughts that strike. For those whose posts serve as the inspiration of my epiphanies and rants, do not be angry, but merely, be honored that you have achieved such status. Names will never be revealed.
