Ellsbury staying up with the Sox?
July 4th, 2007 by czar

Manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Jacoby Ellsbury will likely remain with the Red Sox through the All-Star break.
With Coco Crisp back in the lineup Ellsbury would be serving a reserve role, so it makes more sense to keep him playing every day at Triple-A.

Per Rotoworld.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. So now we’re carrying 5 bench players?

Send the kid back if you aren’t going to play him and call up Breslow.

Geez man, relax. It’s probably as a reward for a good performance, and then he can resume his minor-league progression after the break. No big deal. They would NEVER keep him on the bench here long-term. It’s obviously a detriment to his development.

It’s not so much stunting his progression– I don’t worry about that. In fact, let him hang with the big leaguers for a while, even if he’s not playing, just to assimilate to the environment and level of play. However, the fact that we have a short-staffed bullpen which (without a true long man) can be burned out very easily kind of irks me a bit.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Ellsbury be “forced” down before the weekend after a SP goes 4-5 innings and we see the parade of Timlin, Lopez, Delcarman, Snyder.
